Well, we are sad to say that Gembox is no more! The trio cover band Kenny was playing bass in has imploded. No worries… this gives him more time to focus on solo gigs and work on slowly building an original trio. He’s currently planning several local shows as well as mini tours to SC and VA.
Kenny continues to work with Jerry Brown at the Rubber Room Studio in Chapel Hill, NC on a follow up album to his critically acclaimed 2022 album, Time Stands Still. Robert Sledge (Ben Folds Five) has been putting bass on 10 songs and Andrew Marlin (Watchhouse) has already added mandolin to one song so far. Joe MacPhail is playing keys and drums once again. It’s shaping up to be a more serious/intense dive into Kenny’s songwriting, with lots of new songs as well as a couple of older ones that have never seen the light of day. There’s a new song about Ayahuasca called “Monkey Jungle”. Stay posted for updates.
Kenny’s song about lengendary singer/songwriter John Prine - Almost Like Heaven -was premiered on Americana Highways. Andrew Marlin of Watchhouse (Mandolin Orange) plays mandolin and a unique “octave mandolin” he fashioned out of a 1950s Martin guitar, which he calls “Curtis”.
